Pactiv Providing Support for Keep California Beautiful and the “Don’t Trash California” Campaign.

Keep California Beautiful (KCB) announced today that Pactiv Corporation, a leading producer of consumer and foodservice/food packaging products with eight facilities in California, is a sponsoring partner with Keep California Beautiful to support efforts to promote public outreach in partnership with Caltrans Don’t Trash California Campaign. The first activity will be working with other industry partners in the California Statewide 2009 Great American CleanupTM on May 6, 2009 in one of its key focus areas – load control on vehicles and utility trailers, and roadside litter reduction.

Caltrans and California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct the third Annual Litter Collection and Enforcement Day on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. The Division of Maintenance forces will concentrate on litter cleanup in an effort to heighten the public's awareness of the volume and cost for litter, trash, debris, and illegal dumping abatement in California. The primary goals of the event are to collect litter, save taxpayer dollars and recycle more trash – all in an effort to help make California the most beautiful and cleanest state in the nation!

Keep California Beautiful will be working with Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol, Department of Motor Vehicles, Pactiv, Waste Management, cities, counties and many others throughout the state on the litter reduction and load control emphasis as part of its 2009 Great American Cleanup TM. The 2009 Secure Loads = Clean Roads campaign is expected to generate even more involvement and awareness than previous efforts, with a projected reach of nearly 20 million California residents.

Storm water runoff, misplaced litter and other toxic materials have contributed significantly to the pollution of our California rivers, beaches and ocean. Adjectives that are commonly used to describe these issues are: costly, unsightly and unnecessary.

“It is going to continue to take partnerships to tackle these very complex issues and we are thrilled that Pactiv is taking a proactive role,” KCB Executive Director Christine Flowers-Ewing said. “Pactiv is supporting Keep California Beautiful’s efforts through development of a public private partnership to support Caltrans’ great litter prevention education program Don’t Trash California.”

Tim Sheehan, Pactiv’s Executive Director of Environmental Affairs stated, “We are very excited to be providing significant support for the Don’t Trash California campaign. Pactiv is working to increase public awareness & help prevent litter, and this campaign has a proven track record of getting the public involved to reduce litter.” Pactiv Corporation, a public company, is a leading producer of consumer and foodservice/food packaging which has had a substantial manufacturing and economic presence in California for over 40 years.

Through public education, outreach, and partnership opportunities, KCB develops and conducts litter prevention campaigns with celebrities such as World Champion Skateboarder Tony Hawk, and Five Time Triple Crown Surfer Sunny Garcia with the message Don't Trash California, encouraging youngsters to make a difference by signing a pledge not to litter and to recycle.
